Flytipping

Publication date:
Thursday 15 August 2024
Request:
  1. From recent government data I can see the council handed out nearly quadruple the number of FPNs for fly tipping in 22/23 than in 21/22. Well done and how did you achieve this?
  2. How often do the public report incidents?
  3. Does your proximity to London make your area a target? Are the offenders often from outside the council area?
  4. Is any of it commercial waste?
  5. Brentwood and Basildon councils have also handed out high numbers of FPN as well - did you collaborate on policy or boots-on-the-ground operations in anyway?
Response:
  1. Thurrock have increased front line enforcement resource and take a robust zero tolerance approach to all environmental offences.
  2. The public make regular reports via the Council report it online mechanisms. The Public also contact Customers service desk to raise service requests on a daily basis
  3. There is no evidence that the fly tipping on Thurrock council area is from central London even though we are in close proximity.
  4. Yes, waste consistent with commercial waste is identified linked to building gardening, however the majority of the waste is of a domestic.
  5. No
