As part of the UN Women 16 Days of Activism campaign against Gender-Based Violence, Thurrock Council will host two community engagement sessions on Thursday 28 November.
These sessions are aimed at building connections within the community, raising awareness of Violence Against Young Women and Girls (VAWG), and sharing important resources to enhance public safety and support.
Members of the council will be joined by partners from the VAWG board, who will provide information, answer questions, and offer resources to those attending.
The events are open to all members of the community:
- South Essex College, High St, Grays RM17 6TF: 12pm until 4pm
- Outside Grays Train Station, High St, Grays RM17 6NQ: 5pm until 8pm
Visitors to the sessions will be able to take home safety-promoting items, such as personal alarms and drink spiking tops.
Councillor Victoria Holloway, Cabinet Member for Place and the Environment, said: "In the UK, a woman is killed by a man every three days on average. Violence against women and girls is a national emergency that needs drastic action now. Tackling this issue is a priority for Thurrock Council. We must ensure women and girls feel safe in our borough and the perpetrators are held to account. Through these engagement sessions, we will work to make a difference by educating and empowering our residents."
