Residents across Thurrock can enjoy a relaxing space to knit and socialise at one of the Knit and natter groups hosted in libraries across Thurrock.
The knitting groups offer a welcoming space for people of all abilities to bring along knitting and crocheting projects while enjoying a chat and making new friends. Craft books are available to lend a helping hand and inspire attendee's next knitting project.
The Knit and natter groups are hosted at libraries across the borough including Belhus Library, Blackshots Library, Chadwell Library, Corringham Library, East Tilbury Library, Grays Library and Tilbury Library.
Councillor Valerie Morris-Cook, Cabinet member for Community Partnerships, said: "Our libraries offer residents the opportunity to come and have a chat while knitting together. I'm always amazed at just how creative people can get with their knitting, whether it's a nice warm scarf or a cosy jumper.
"The groups have been really popular and it's a great chance for people who have never picked up a pair of knitting needles and yarn to pick up some skills from some of the more experienced knitters. Advice is even on hand for left and right-handed knitters, which is something that often challenged my mum when she started to teach me how to knit. I think if a group like this was available, we might have saved a bit of time correcting some of my knitting mistakes!
"I know some of our groups can get quite busy, so I would recommend anyone interested to get in touch with our local libraries before they pop down and join the fun."
East Tilbury Library's knitting group is unable to accept new members and Blackshots library has limited space. To avoid disappointment, get in touch with your local library ahead of joining the group.
You can find out when the next Knit and natter group will be taking place in your local library on Thurrock Council's library page.
