Action Repair Days to support our tenants

12 December 2024

The second in a series of Repairs Action Days took place this week (Wednesday 11 December), giving council tenants across the borough the chance to receive advice and support on their housing.

The action days kicked off on Tuesday 19 November 2024 with a community pop-up event at Koala Park in Tilbury.

The second Repairs Action Day took place at Headon Hall in Stifford Clays. It gave council tenants who live around Chafford Way, Crammavill Street and Whitmore Avenue the opportunity to report repairs and receive advice with officers Thurrock Council.

Staff from Thurrock Council and contractors have been at the sites to offer financial advice and welfare support, discuss concerns about anti-social behaviour, provide information about how to get involved in housing plans and link vulnerable households with community support.

Cllr Mark Hooper, Cabinet Member for Health and Well-being, has also been in attendance for these events to meet directly with residents.

Cllr Hooper said: “The local needs and priorities of our tenants in these areas, and indeed across the borough, are important to us. We want to ensure that their voices are heard and provide the service that they deserve.”

Further sessions will be held once a month until March in council housing areas in Stifford Clays, South Ockendon, Purfleet-on-Thames and Blackshots.

The Repair Action Days are another step in the councils improvement and recovery journey under the Corporate Plan 2024-2029 – ‘A fresh start for Thurrock’ – and the Thurrock Cares campaign to help residents who are struggling to get the support they need over the winter months.
