Proposals to explore the potential for new homes to meet local demand in Grays and Stanford-le-Hope are being put to residents to share their views.
Thurrock Council is seeking feedback on 2 housing schemes, at:
- the Darnley Road and Crown Road Car Park site in Grays town centre
- Lyndhurst Road in Stanford-le-Hope
Residents can provide their views online, by phone or by attending drop-in sessions to give their feedback in person.
The Darnley Road and Crown Road Car Park site is owned by Thurrock Council and is currently underused. Phase 2 of the consultation is open until Tuesday 7 March 2023. It reflects resident feedback provided last year to explore the potential for 53 high-quality homes.
Lyndhurst Road is a council-owned site currently occupied by 67 underused garages, which could be re-developed into 7 affordable council homes comprising of 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom houses. The consultation is open until Sunday 19 March 2023.
Cllr Luke Spillman, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: "Here we have two sites in Grays and Stanford-le-Hope that are underused and offer the potential to house Thurrock residents and meet current housing demand.
"We have listened to previous views on the Darnley Road and Crown Road site and have updated our latest plans to propose 53 new homes instead of 57, two new buildings rather than three and a reduction in height to one of the buildings.
"The Lyndhurst Road scheme is still at an early stage and your feedback will help to build upon and develop our initial ideas, which will be reflected should these ideas progress to a planning application.
"In both proposals we have reflected a need for parking provision and open green spaces for residents to enjoy, which is a trend we continue to acknowledge that our residents want and need.
"Everyone should have access to a good quality home. We are committed to exploring new and innovative ways to unlock housing delivery and provide high-quality homes for our residents."
Residents can provide their feedback on Darnley Road at a drop-in session on Tuesday 21 February at The Community House, Seabrooke Rise, New Road, Grays, from 3pm to 7pm. A drop-in session for the Lyndhurst Road development will be held on Wednesday 22 February at Impulse Leisure Centre, Springhouse Road, Corringham, from 3:30pm to 7pm.
