Sheltered Housing residents at sites across Thurrock have raised over £4,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Residents hosted coffee mornings for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning campaign at sites in Grays, Tilbury, Aveley, Corringham, South Ockendon and Stanford-le-Hope and raised a grand total of £4,670.79.
Thurrock Council’s Sheltered Housing Officers supported residents with their fundraising activities. The events were open to fellow residents, friends and family members, and some also to members of the public.
Kynoch Court in Stanford-le-Hope has organised coffee mornings for the past three years. Leftover food from this year’s event was collected by the council’s Local Area Co-ordinators and donated to soup kitchens.
Cllr Mark Hooper, Cabinet Member for Health and Well-being, said: “It’s wonderful that our residents have come together to organise and run these fundraising events, with the help of our Sheltered Housing Officers. The coffee mornings have not only raised a fantastic amount of money for a worthy cause but have also brought our residents together and given them the opportunity to socialise and catch up.”
This year’s Macmillan Cancer Support official Coffee Morning took place on Friday 27 September 2024, but events can be held at any time. Find out about Macmillan Cancer Support.
