Essential Living Fund

Furniture and white goods

Through the Essential Living Fund you may be offered furniture or 'white goods'.

Furniture

If your application for items of furniture is granted, you will be sent a letter telling you that your claim was successful. The letter will have details of:

  • how much you have been awarded
  • the charitable furniture providers where you choose your furniture

When you go to the furniture provider, you must take your award letter so they can take details. For large items of furniture, the provider will organise delivery for you at no extra cost.

We use only reputable second hand furniture providers.

We have worked closely with all the providers to make sure they provide a high standard of goods.

If you're awarded furniture for the place where you already live, you must use the award within 2 weeks, otherwise it may be withdrawn.

If you're awarded furniture for a property you'll be moving into, you have 2 weeks from the date you occupy the property to use the award, otherwise it may be withdrawn.

It's your responsibility to make sure the furniture you choose will be able to fit through your doors.

White goods

If your application for items of furniture is granted, you will be sent a letter telling you that your claim was successful. The letter will have details of what you have been awarded.

The Essential Living Fund team will email the supplier direct, giving them your contact details and information about what white goods you have been granted.

The supplier will then contact you direct to organise:

  • delivery of the appliance
  • installation of the appliance, if necessary
  • removal of the old appliance, if necessary

If the supplier does not contact you, tell the Essential Living Fund team using the contact details in the letter.

If you would prefer to buy an appliance that's more expensive than the one offered, you would be expected to make up the difference in price yourself.

The appliance delivered will be new and covered by a warranty. Any problems with the appliance must be taken up directly with the supplier, not with the Essential Living Fund team.
