Additional support for Thurrock Foster Carers

Thurrock Council has increased allowance payments and improved the support available to foster carers, as the council seeks more foster carers to open their hearts and homes to support vulnerable young people.
Cllr Barry Johnson, Cabinet Member for Children's Services and Housing, said: "Our foster carers are truly remarkable people providing vulnerable young people with a safe and loving family environment which allows them to grow, develop and thrive.

Thameside Complex lit up white and blue in solidarity with victims of violence

Cllr Andrew Jefferies, Leader of Thurrock Council said: "We are lighting the Thameside Complex white and blue – the colours of the Israeli flag – today to show that we stand in solidarity with the victims of terrorism following the terrible attack that took place in Israel over the weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with all victims of this current conflict, and their families and loved ones.
“The complex will be lit up in line with government buildings throughout the UK as we show solidarity with those affected by this deplorable act of violence."

Enforcement officers win Police awards

Thurrock Council's enforcement officers have won 2 Essex Police awards in recognition of the outstanding work they do to tackle and prevent anti-social behaviour.
The team picked up a Certificate of Recognition for their outstanding contribution and a Long Service Award at the first ever Community Safety Accreditation Scheme Awards, which took place at Essex Police headquarters on Tuesday 26 September.
The Community Safety Accreditation Scheme (CSAS) allows the Chief of Essex Police to designate extra powers to non-police officers working in a community safety role.

Devolution deal development for Greater Essex

New deal would strengthen the Greater Essex economy.
More funding and more local decision-making to strengthen the local economy is on the cards for Greater Essex.
Essex County Council, Southend-on-Sea City Council and Thurrock Council, along with the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, have agreed to work toward a level 2 devolution deal – which, if agreed, would involve creating a new Greater Essex Combined Authority.

Early indication of Key Stage 2 success

Early figures indicate that Thurrock's primary schools are the top performers in the Eastern region when it comes to teaching reading, writing, grammar, maths and science.
Results of assessments of pupils in years Early Years Foundation Stage, Year 2 and Year 6 show that more pupils are reaching the expected standard in Thurrock than across the region. The figures are due to be validated later in the year.

Vape shop closed for selling illegal vapes

Thurrock Council Trading Standards officers have secured a closure order against a vape shop that was found to be selling illegal vapes to potentially underage customers.
Basildon Magistrates granted a closure order against Vape-E-Licious, St Chads Road, Tilbury, during a hearing on Tuesday 5 September.
Trading Standards officers found and confiscated illegal vapes from the shop during a visit in June 2023, only to return to a few weeks later and find the business selling a supply of the illicit e-cigarettes from the boot of a car.

Recycling side waste collections from 11 September

5 September 2023
Following feedback from residents, waste crews will begin collecting recycling side waste when they carry out recycling collections.
Residents will be able to leave a clear or white bag of recycling and large flattened boxes next to their blue bin on their scheduled collection day and crews will take them as part of the fortnightly recycling collection.

One year on - a time of change

Major changes are happening at Thurrock Council to improve the way the organisation is managed, regain financial stability, and make the council fit for the future.
It is now a year since Thurrock Council was put into intervention by the Government, on 2 September 2022, in response to serious concerns about the council's financial situation.
