2024 local election results announced

The results of Thurrock Council's elections have been announced.
There were elections in 17 of the borough’s 20 wards. Following the count, these are the results:
27 Labour – held 4, gained 8, lost 0
13 Conservative – held 1, gained 0, lost 10
9 Independent – held 2, gained 2, lost 0

Nearly all primary pupils to attend one of their top choice schools

The vast majority of children across Thurrock will start their school journey in September 2024 at one of their parent or guardians top 3 primary school choices.
From 2,350 applications, over 97% of children will have been offered one their top 3 places. 89% of applicants this year have been offered their first choice of primary school.

Candidates announced for local elections 2024

Local election nominations have officially closed and the names of all candidates standing for election in Thurrock on Thursday 2 May have been released.
Details of candidates running can be found at www.thurrock.gov.uk/elections
In this year's elections, only a third of councillors in the borough stand, which means some 2-councillor wards will not be contested this time.

Poll cards for elections on Thursday 2 May 2024

With elections taking place on Thursday 2 May 2024, make sure you look out for your poll card.
Starting on Friday 22 March and through the following week, poll cards are being delivered to the homes of registered voters.

Ministerial visit to Thurrock coincides with new government early years campaign

Minister for Public Health, Start for Life and Primary Care, Dame Andrea Leadsom has launched a new government campaign supporting new parents and their babies coinciding with a visit to a Brighter Futures family hub in Thurrock.
On Thursday 21 March, the Rt Hon Dame Andrea Leadsom joined Thurrock Council's Deputy Leader, Cllr Deb Arnold, and parents and children at Tilbury Family Hub in London Road, Tilbury, to hear their stories and find out how the family hubs support families.

Thurrock awarded new funding to upgrade council homes

21 March 2024
Residents living in council properties are set to benefit from almost £4-million of funding to help keep council homes warm and reduce energy bills. 
On Monday 18 March, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero awarded Thurrock Council £3,982,476.19 to improve the energy efficiency of over 200 council properties. 
The funding; which has been awarded through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund: Wave 2.2, will be used to ensure that 206 council properties with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of E or lower will be upgraded to an EPC of C or higher. 

Thurrock's Next Top Boss 2024 winner announced

On Wednesday 20 March, a group of students from St Clere's School in Stanford-le-Hope were announced as the winners of Thurrock's Next Top Boss 2024.
Thurrock's Next Top Boss is an annual competition that gives young people aged 14-25 years old the opportunity to work with local employers on real business challenges.
This year marked the 14th year of the competition and was partnered by Trunk Logistics; a removal and storage company based in Grays.

Mayor and Leader share tribute following the death of Luke Mackenzie, Mayor of Basildon

Thurrock Council Mayor, Cllr Sue Little, and Leader, Cllr Andrew Jefferies, have paid tribute to Mayor of Basildon, Luke Mackenzie, who has tragically passed away.
In a joint statement they said:
"We are deeply saddened to learn of Luke's passing and our thoughts go out to his family at this difficult time.
"Luke was a real friend and a dedicated public servant who worked hard to serve the people of Basildon and the county of Essex. His loss will be felt acutely across Basildon and neighbouring councils.

Legal proceedings confirmed

Thurrock Council can confirm that proceedings have been issued in the High Court against Liam Kavanagh. We are advised not to say more at this stage but will provide further information when we are able to do so.
