Free training is available online for unpaid carers.
Carers UK online training
We work with Carers UK to offer free access to a wide range of online training for carers in Thurrock.
Carers UK: Digital Resource for Carers is designed to support carers by covering topics such as:
- health and wellbeing – including nutrition and looking after your own health
- financial planning – including help to understand the cost of care and support
- working and caring – including a step-by-step guide to requesting flexible working
- support for caring – including information on benefits and a guide to self-advocacy
- technology and caring – support available through the Jointly app using access code DGTL1974
Open University online training
Open University: Caring for adults is an introductory course for anyone in a caring role, either paid or unpaid. It builds on what you already know to give you a better understanding of your role as a carer. It also supports your own well-being by giving you some ideas and information about looking after yourself and dealing with stress.
Open University: Caring for an older family member with learning disabilities is for people who care for someone with learning disabilities who is middle-aged or older. It can help if you have concerns and questions about the future care of a family member, but are having difficulty finding the advice and support you need.
Social Care Institute for Excellence online training
You can get a wide range of information, advice and online learning from Social Care Institute of Excellence (SCIE): Carers.
SCIE: Caring safely at home is an online video designed to help carers look after someone safely at home. It covers topics such as:
- staying healthy at home
- dementia
- everyday support
- what to do if you have a concern
- emergency planning
