Planning constraints map information
Planning constraints are policies or conditions that affect whether, and how, a property or piece of land can be developed. You can use our planning constraints map to check which constraints may affect development plans for land or property in Thurrock.
How to use the planning constraints map
When the map first opens you will see an outline of the whole borough. A grey bar at the top of the screen shows 'thurrock.gov.uk – planning constraints' on the left, and has 3 symbols on the right. These symbols control the information you can display on the map, as described below.
Finding a property and zooming in
In the top-left corner of the map there is a search box you can use to find an individual property, street, or postcode area in Thurrock. Use the [+] and [–] controls to zoom in and out of the map. Beneath the zoom controls is a button with a picture of a house, which zooms back to the original full outline of the whole borough.
Display planning constraint information
The symbols in the top-right corner of the grey bar can be used to overlay planning constraint information on the map. They are as follows.
Symbol | How it works |
---|---|
|
Constraint layers – use this symbol to show a list of the different types of planning constraint you can choose to overlay on the map. Items in the list are shown as a small box with a layer name next to it. If you click the layer name you will see a symbol below it that shows how the layer will appear on the map. It could be a single point or a coloured outlined area – a 'polygon'. If you click on the small box next to the name, a tick will appear in the box and the layer of points or polygons will be highlighted on the map. You can remove a layer by clicking on the small box again to remove its tick. |
|
Key to active layers – use this symbol to show a list of the constraint layers currently overlaid on the map. The only layer displayed when you first open the map is the outline around the boundary of Thurrock. You can use the 'Constraint layers' symbol (above) to add or remove other layers of planning constraint information. |
|
About this map – use this symbol for links that can take you to back this web page and to other planning pages. |
Constraint layers
When one or more type of planning constraint is overlaid on the map, you can click on any property or piece of land to find out more about the overlaid constraints that affect it.
Information is displayed in a small pop-up box. If more than one constraint is present, you may see "(1 of 2)" or "(1 of 3)", and so on, at the top of the box. In this case there will also be a small '>' arrow at the top of the box, which you can use to display each constraint.
