Types of parking restriction
There are several ways in which parking or waiting can be restricted on roads.
Double yellow lines indicate no waiting at any time and apply to the road, pavement and verge. You may, however, load and unload goods or set down and pick up passengers, unless the signs or road markings indicate.
Single yellow lines indicate waiting restrictions at some time during the day, as shown on the nearby yellow time plates.
Loading restrictions are indicated by yellow kerb markings. Double kerb markings indicate no loading at any time. Single yellow kerb markings indicate no loading at a the times shown on the nearby black and white sign.
Controlled parking zones (CPZs) have entry signs that give the times and days that restrictions operate. Inside the CPZ, yellow lines indicate where waiting is prohibited or restricted. No yellow time plates are provided unless the waiting restriction imposed on that particular length of road is different from that indicated on the CPZ entry.

Yellow lines
Yellow lines restrict parking where there is a need to:
- prevent obstructive or dangerous parking
- assist in the general flow of traffic
- improve road safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists
- improve visibility at junctions
- improve access for emergency service or refuse vehicles
Red routes
At present we do not operate any red routes in Thurrock. They are used in London and other cities.
