Commitment ceremonies
A commitment ceremony is a meaningful and dignified ceremony for adult couples.
The purpose of the ceremony is to make a public declaration of life-long commitment, love and dedication between 2 people. The occasion can be shared with family and friends or the ceremony can be held in private without guests.
Ceremonies are held in council venues, including register offices, civic buildings and approved premises such as hotels.
The ceremony is conducted by a celebrant who will meet with the couple prior to the actual occasion to offer advice and discuss requirements. The celebrant will treat any details relating to the ceremony with the strictest confidence.
Arrange a ceremony
Ceremonies are arranged by contacting the register office. A meeting will be set for you and the celebrant to meet and discuss your requirements and also to receive an information pack. The pack contains the ceremony framework and choices that will enable you to plan the ceremony in detail. Meetings usually take place at the register office.
Do think carefully about who you would like to invite, think about the words you will say to one another and whether you wish to exchange rings and or gifts. The ceremony can be tailored to suit your needs, making this a very special and memorable occasion, so do take time to consider your choices.
