Why children miss education
There are many reasons that can prevent a child accessing full-time education. These include:
- failure to register the child with a school
- the child being withdrawn from the education system and there being no process to identify them and make sure they re-engage with full-time education
The personal circumstances of the child or their family may contribute to their withdrawal and not re-engaging.
This can happen because of:
- failure to find provision of education when moving to a new address within Thurrock, or on arrival in Thurrock from another area
- failure to start in education and therefore never entering the system
- removal from a school roll without good reason
- a parent or carer withdrawing the child from the school roll without giving a new destination
- a parent or carer withdrawing the child from school to educate them at home, but providing inadequate education
