Burials
Burials (or 'interments') can take place at cemeteries on any week day but not on bank holidays. Muslim burials, which must take place within 24 hours, can take place at West Thurrock Cemetery on any day of the week.
There are memorial gardens for cremated remains at each cemetery. Cremated remains can also be placed in graves.
Applications can be made using the form below.

Faith areas
All our cemeteries have an area that has been blessed – called consecrated ground – for Christian burials, as well as areas that have not been blessed.
There is specific Muslim burial section within West Thurrock Cemetery. Our procedure and practical guide for Muslim burials is provided below.
You can arrange an appointment to register a death. Our emergency out-of-hours contact service can be used for emergency death registrations, for timely burials in line with religious or cultural practices.
What happens after a burial
After a burial:
- the ground will subside and settle for a few months
- we will level the ground, seed and maintained it
- we may remove any temporary markers on the grave
Burials next to your family grave
If a burial happens next to your family grave, then your family grave may be covered with earth for a short time.
The headstone will be protected and put back immediately after the burial has taken place.
