NHS health checks
NHS health checks look for early signs of long-term health problems or serious illnesses so steps can be taken to reduce the risk of them developing.
We invite people between the ages of 40 to 74 to have a free check-up once every 5 years. The check-up is free and looks at health issues such as:
The health check takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

If these checks uncover problems you will be offered a range of advice and support to:
- help you stop smoking
- improve your diet and manage cholesterol
- reduce your blood pressure
- manage your weight
- be more active
- reduce your stress
- reduce the amount of alcohol you drink
Who can get a NHS Health Check
You are eligible for a free NHS Health Check if you're aged between 40 and 74 years, have not had a NHS Health Check in the last 5 years, and have none of the following:
- atrial fibrillation
- chronic kidney disease (CKD) classified as stage 3, 4 or 5
- coronary heart disease
- diabetes
- hypercholesterolemia
- hypertension
- peripheral arterial disease
- previous diagnosis of heart failure
- previous diagnosis of stroke
- previous diagnosis of transient ischaemic attack (mini stroke)
- statins prescribed for lowering cholesterol

You can get your free NHS health check by phoning Thurrock Healthy Lifestyle Service, who can either arrange a check at your local GP practice or book an appointment at a venue local to you.
