Flexi-schooling or returning to school
'Flexi-schooling' is an arrangement between parents and a school, whereby a child is registered at school but only attends for part of the week. The rest of the time, the child is educated at home or educated 'otherwise'. Overall, flexi-schooling is full-time but not considered to be home education.
Although flexi-schooling is a legal option, schools are under no obligation to approve it. If you wish to explore this arrangement, you must discuss it with the school directly.
If the school agrees, your child will go on the school roll. The arrangement will be monitored and reviewed by the school with an intention that the child be returned to full-time attendance as soon as possible.
On the days when it’s agreed your child will be home educated, they will incur an authorised absence mark from the school. Any absences on the days your child is required to attend school would be dealt with in accordance with the school's attendance policy.
Returning your child to school
If you decide you want to return your child to school, or if your child has not been in the school system and you now want them to be, you must apply through school admissions.
A place cannot be guaranteed at your child's previous school or at your school of choice.
