Making important decisions
The ability to understand and make a decision when it needs to be made is called ‘mental capacity’.
The Mental Capacity Act (MCA) is a law designed to protect and give rights to individuals who may lack the mental capacity to make their own decisions about their care and treatment. It applies to people aged 16 and over. Find out more from NHS: what is the Mental Capacity Act?
