Community contraceptive service
Sexual and reproductive healthcare (SRH) is a community contraceptive service for women and men. It provides training and advice to care professionals.
SRH also helps reduce:
- sexually transmitted infections
- unplanned pregnancies

The SRH service includes:
- sexual activity history taking
- safer sex advice
- information about contraceptive options
- assessment, fitting and supplying diaphragm or caps
- first and continued contraception injections
- emergency oral contraception
- intrauterine device (IUD) coil and intrauterine system (IUS) routine follow-up
- GP referral for female sterilisation
- GP referral for vasectomy
- pre-conception advice
- free NHS pregnancy testing and appropriate referral
- gestation estimate by clinical history
- referral for antenatal care
- testicular and breast examination
- assessment and referral for terminating pregnancy
- cervical cytology for screening programme
- referral for colposcopy for abnormalities from routine screening
- Chlamydia screening
- referral to a Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) for suspected sexual abuse
- on-going supply of condoms (male and female) and other protection for safer sex
- substance misuse history including intravenous drug use
- vaginal discharge referral
- information about local sexual health providers, such as support groups and specialist services
- health education including sexual health
- identifying onward referral to psychosexual support services
