Thurrock Museum

Bringing old and new communities together to help celebrate and care for Thurrock's Heritage.

This project will take place from December 2024 until March 2027.

Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, UK newcomers within Thurrock’s community will come together with long-standing community members to help the Museum with these Core Activities:

Adding vital information to our specialist museum database.

Re-boxing our artefacts to ensure they are better stored.

These Core Activities will ensure better care of our artefacts and help us to better understand and celebrate Thurrock’s Heritage.

Starting in April 2026, we will work with our Project Participants to co-curate a Project Showcase which will involve an exhibition and event.

We will also pilot an educational programme which links to learning outcomes for students from local educational organisations.

Who will we work with?

We will work with the above partners to recruit Project Participants to help us with our Core Activity Work.

We will work with TCHC and Thurrock Adult Community College on our pilot educational programme.

How can you get involved?

We will be recruiting Project Participants in late February/Early March so watch this space!

Project participants will:

Undertake induction and training for the Core Activity work.

Learn database entry and object handling and packing skills.

Discover Thurrock’s Heritage and History through working in the Museum and visits to Thurrock Heritage sites.

For those who are looking to improve their English, they will be working in an immersive environment, learning about Thurrock’s heritage and history.

For established Thurrock residents, they will have the opportunity to share their passion for Thurrock’s Heritage and History and help to mentor.
